The teaching context for this project is a Canadian English for Academic Purposes (EAP) classroom at a college or university. Learners in this context are at an advanced level of English and are often from overseas with the majority between the ages of 19 and 25, although some classes may have learners who are older than this. This project may be adapted for classrooms with older learners by teaching to their level of comfort with technology, or those who are not in an academic setting by adjusting the writing topics offered to the learners, or allowing the learners to choose their own topics.

Most if not all of the learners in question have their own devices which support internet access, which is offered free of charge on campus. The learners are also already familiar with working on these devices and navigating the Internet. The use of groups will help to assist any learners who do not own their own device as they will be able to share a device with other group members.
